Billy Fielder's coin

Home

per William L Fielder:

Grandma Mamie Andis Fielder wrote this on the day of President John Kennedy's funeral in Nov. 1963. We (Grandma and I) and more of my family were watching the funeral on TV. Grandma cried or had tears in her eyes the entire time. She reached into her purse and took out this 1891 Silver Dollar coin and told me she wanted me to have it when she was done with it.  I was nine, and wasn't thinking about her dying.

The coin was very special to her. My father, Owen L. Fielder gave it to her for safe keeping, good luck, and for her to remember him, when he left to go to Europe in WWII.

She wrote on on little yellow paper "this is Billies when I am done with it".  She put that next to the coin. Then, on another tablet size paper, wrote "this silver dollar is to go to Billie Fielder when I am done with it". She folded that around the coin and on the exposed side wrote, "this is Owens Billie".
