Russell D. Perkins, 53, of Bargersville, passed away Monday, Feb. 16, 2009, at Community Hospital South in Indianapolis.

He was born Aug. 29, 1955, at Johnson Memorial Hospital in Franklin to the late Richard S. Perkins and Edna M. (Lautenbach) Perkins of Greenwood. He married Jodi M. (Simpson) Perkins on June 25, 1977, at Mount Auburn United Methodist Church at Stones Crossing. She survives.

He was a 1973 graduate of Center Grove High School and a member of Bargersville First Christian Church, where he had served as a deacon. He served two years with the Bargersville Activity and Festival Association, had been an organizer for Crafts by Daddy's Girls, and served on the communication and outreach committee of Johnson County Community Organizations Active in Disaster in response to the June 7 flood.

He had been a manager of mailing services for Priority Mailing Services in Indianapolis. Previously he was a mail supervisor for Gannett Direct for four years and a mail manager for IUPUI in Indianapolis for 18 years.

Survivors include his wife, Jodi M. (Simpson) Perkins of Bargersville; a son, Richie D. Perkins of Bargersville; a daughter, Barbara A. Perkins of Indianapolis; his mother, Edna M. (Lautenbach) Perkins of Greenwood; a brother, Randy E. (Nila) Perkins of Franklin; two sisters, Connie S. Perkins of Greenwood and Trudy J. (Jeff) Perry of Greenwood; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard S. Perkins, on July 8, 2003.

The Rev. Roger Gifford will conduct a service at 10 a.m. Friday at Bargersville First Christian Church, 101 East St. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the church. Burial will be in Forest Lawn Memory Gardens in Greenwood.

Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center in Franklin is handling arrangements.
