Services for Howard Eugene Benefield, 78, of Visalia will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Sequoia Baptist Church. Mr. Benefield, a machinist, died Tuesday. Visitation will be from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Arrangements are by Smith Family Chapel.

Howard Benefield

Howard Benefield was born on Sept. 7, 1927 in Selma. He went home to heaven to be with his Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 18, 2006, in Visalia. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Frieda, his son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Kathy Benefield, of Visalia; and his son and daughter-in-law, Jerry and Bobbie Benefield of Chico. He is also survived by six grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.

Howard Benefield was raised in Selma.

He served in the United States Navy during World War II and the Korean conflict. He spent most of his adult life as a machinist in the Selma area.

Shortly after his retirement, he and his wife moved to Visalia to be closer to their family and church.

Howard was well known for his love for his Savior, his family, his church, and his country. He was respected for his character, his testimony, and his refusal to complain in any situation.

He was loved for his compassionate heart, his positive spirit, his great sense of humor, and his ever-present smile.

Services for Howard Benefield will be held at Sequoia Baptist Church on Tuesday, July 25, at 11 a.m. with military graveside service at 1 p.m. at Visalia Cemetery. Visitation Monday, July 24th, 6-8:30 p.m. at the church. Arrangements by Smith Family Chapel, Exeter.
