1) Wife of Edward James Gilpin: Gladys Marguerite Lane (adopted by Louis Lincoln Lane - listed as her father) - born 06 Feb 1900 OR; died 05 Dec 1972 WA; obituary; buried Newport Cemetery, Newport, Pend Oreille, WA; photo of tombstone; married (1) to ____ Carter; daughter of Louis Lincoln Lane (24 Jul 1861 Harrisburg, Linn, OR-11 Jan 1940 The Dalles, Wasco, OR; obituary) and Harriett Eugenia Miller* (c. 1864 Gibson, Susquehanna, PA-03 Jan 1939 The Dalles, Wasco, OR; obituary); Louis and Harriett buried Odd Fellows Cemetery, The Dalles, Wasco, OR - unmarked); Louis and Harriett married 08 Oct 1884. Gladys had one son by unknown Carter: Dewey M Lane (03 Aug 1918 OR-15 Mar 1992 Port Townsend, Jefferson, Washington); Dewey married 27 Aug 1949 Seattle, King, WA Evelyn Lorene McCaslin (10 Apr 1918 Seattle, King, WA-30 Nov 1997 Port Townsend, Jefferson, WA). 2) We have a copy of Edward and Gladys's marriage certificate.

3) Edward was a Corporal in Co. K, 23d Div.  He was born in  Everett WA on 11 Apr 1897, the son of Albert R. and Jane Gilpin of Burlington WA.  Edward entered the service from Seattle WA on 15 Jul 1917 and transferred from Camp Murray WA to Camp Mills NY, and then to France.  On 14 Nov 1917 he was promoted from private to corporal.  He was in action at Chateau-Thierry, Soissons, St. Mihiel, Champaigne and Argonne.  He was part of the Army of Occupation and was overseas for 15 months.  He was decorated with Croix d Guerre and mustered out at Camp Lewis WA on 18 May 1919.  We have a copy of his service record.
