According to The History of Virgil, Kansas, the Isaac and Malinda Sharp family came from Missouri (originally from Illinois), to live in Virgil, Greenwood, Kansas, in 1857. Isaac had a livery stable on the northeast corner of Main and Santa Fe Streets in Virgil. He built and "up-to-date" frame house in 1874. In this house, they furnished overnight accommodations to stagecoach passengers on their way from Eureka to Burlington.
