Gallery 2:34: a mobile academy inspiring youth through art
Founded in Memory of Tim Wallman

Gallery 2:34 is proudly founded in Tim Wallman's memory as a tribute to his talent as a visual artist and in appreciation for his service to school-aged children in his native community.

Tim died suddenly in February 2001 from complications associated with juvenile diabetes. His body's inability to produce insulin was diagnosed when he was just ten years old, and he began daily injections of manufactured insulin to maintain appropriate blood sugar levels. At 34, his life ended while he slept.

An active lifetime resident of Mooresville, Tim left behind a legacy that is hard to pin down to one definition. He was a professional photographer, a news reporter, a referee, an umpire, a coach, a patron, a neighbor, a father, a classmate and a friend.

Tim's professional career began at The Mooresville Times where he worked as a photographer and reporter primarily covering high school athletics. He later worked for Johnson County's daily newspaper, the Daily Journal, where he became a staple on the sidelines of college and professional sporting events as well.

Tim served 10 years as a photographer for Indiana School Pictures, taking annual portraits of school-aged children throughout the state. At the grocery store or in a neighborhood restaurant, children often spotted Tim, pointed to him and said to a parent, "Hey, that's the school picture guy." Though they may not have known his name, students remembered Tim as the photographer with the cartoon ties, the photographer that knew which clubs and sports they had participated in last year, the photographer that congratulated them on their game-winning goals against their big rivals, the photographer that took their prom picture and the photographer who took the senior portrait that still hangs on the wall in their parents' living room.

In fact, Tim was also the guy that had refereed their first basketball games, umpired their high school softball games and, eventually, the guy they would ask to take their wedding pictures.

But Tim was even more than that.

The son of Joe and Kay Wallman of Waverly, Tim was a 1985 graduate of Mooresville High School. In 1996 Tim married Julie Ann Gajderowicz, and a year later the couple welcomed a son, Tyler Joseph, into their home in Camby. As the world watched the 1900s come to an end, Tim was in headlines globally as father of "The Millennium Twins." His son Jacob Michael was born at 11:59 PM on December 31, 1999 and daughter Jordan Nicole was born at 12:01 AM on January 1, 2000. The young family's unique story was featured on news shows including Good Morning, America and Today.

About the Tim Wallman Photo Collection
The Tim Wallman Collection contains work from Tim's career as a photojournalist. It includes many prints autographed by prominent figures in Indiana sports history, including legends of football and basketball from both Indiana University and Purdue University.

The Tim Wallman Collection is also home to a unique series of portraits of Tim's own three children. The pieces include seasonally themed baby pictures of son Tyler, and portraits of twins Jacob and Jordan dressed as famous character pairs from popular culture. The series is unique not only because of the creative photography but also because Tim's wife fashioned all of the costumes by hand.
