Cycle crash kills one

A 30-year-old Mobil oil worker was killed Thursday afternoon when his motorcycle collided with a flatbed truck in the 1600 block of Grant Street.

Benjamin F. Andis III of 3575 Farm Road 1131 in Vidor suffered multiple head injuries in the two-vehicle collision, police said. he was pronounced dead at Baptist Hospital shortly after [the] 3 p.m. accident occurred.  Andis apparently had just left work at the refinery when his motorcycle apparently collided with the rear of the flatbed truck, an officer said, adding that the victim's lunchbox was found on the motorcycle. The 29-year-old trucker told investigators that he halted his vehicle in the westbound lane of Grant because of road construction directly ahead of him. When the truckdriver looked back to see if the road was clear in order to turn around, he saw the motorcycle lying in the street, he told police. The incident is still under investigation.

Funeral arrangements for Andis are pending at Memorial Funeral Home in Vidor.
