Obituaries - Elizabeth (Brock) Fleenor
Elizabeth (Betty) Fleenor, age 94, of Bristol, TN passed away on Tuesday,
May 26, 2015 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. Betty was born in Ft.
Payne, AL and had been a resident of Bristol for over 70 years. From the
time she married her husband, Dryden Fleenor, and moved to Holston Valley,
she was a lifelong member of Cold Spring Presbyterian Church where she
served as an elder, deacon, Sunday school teacher and in many other roles in
the Women of the Church and Circle #1. Betty graduated from the University
of Alabama.
She spent many years as a tour director for AAA and Farmer to Farmer Tours,
escorting groups of travelers all over the United States, Canada, Australia
and Europe. Betty and her husband Dryden operated the Fleenor Egg Farm for
many years which was established by his father and mother in 1912. Fleenor
Eggs was known throughout the region by their slogan, “So fresh the hens
haven’t missed them.” Betty worked hard to promote agriculture and
community, serving in various roles which most notably included being a
member of the State Advisory Committee for the 1948 annual governor’s
agriculture convention, state representative for District IV at the State
Farm Bureau convention, and delegate to represent Sullivan County at the
1963 American Farm Bureau convention in Atlanta. Additionally, she was
president of the Sullivan County Home Demonstration Club and served on the
state advisory committee of the Tennessee Farm Bureau Home and Community
conference of 1950.
Survivors include sons, Norman Fleenor of Johnson City, TN, Brock Fleenor
and wife Kay of Bristol, TN, Mike Fleenor and wife Susan of Knoxville, TN;
seven grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one brother, Harry B.
Brock; and one sister, Ann Brock Hillhouse both of Birmingham, AL.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2015 at 12:00 noon at
Cold Spring Presbyterian Church, 280 Cold Spring Church Road, Bristol, TN,
with Dr. Doug LaPointe officiating. Interment will follow at Cold Spring
Cemetery. Pallbearers include: Will Fleenor, Ben Fleenor, Chris Fleenor,
Mark Fleenor, Andy Crutcher and Tom Vaughn. Honorary pallbearers will be
Curt Acres and Walker Powell. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am
to 12:00 pm prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to Jeremiah School, c/o Summit Leadership Foundation,
P.O. Box 3555, Johnson City, TN 37602 (checks should be made payable to
Summit Leadership with Jeremiah School in the memo) or memorials may be sent
to the Cold Spring Presbyterian Church Cemetery Fund at 280 Cold Spring
Church Road, Bristol, TN 37620.
