FRENCH LICK — William “Bill” Andis, 78, French Lick, died Thursday at Bloomington Hospital of Orange County.

He was born Nov. 19, 1929, in Orange County, to Gilbert A. and Iona A. (Wells) Andis. He married Hester Rainey on Dec. 1, 1956, and she survives.

He was a retired lineman from LG&E. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean Conflict and a member of the Georgetown Lodge No. 480 F&AM and the Paoli First Baptist Church.

Surviving with his wife, Hester Andis of French Lick, are three sons, Rex Andis, Floyds Knobs, James C. Wells, New Albany, and Larry Joe Wells, Laconia; two daughters, Sandra Markland, French Lick and Judith Baker, Canton, Mich.; one brother, Dale Andis, Paoli; three sisters, Mary Blevens and Betty Fravell, both of Paoli, and June Stout of Cookville, Tenn.; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers and two sisters.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Monday at the Kemple Funeral Home in Paoli with Ron McClintock officiating. Burial will follow in Concord Cemetery with military rites.

Friends may call from 3-8 p.m. on Sunday and from 9 a.m. until the service on Monday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic service at 7 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the American Lung Association.
