CRAIG HARRIS

Craig Harris, 49, an excavation and materials contractor in the Washington area for 30 years, died of a heart attack June 18 at his home in Rockville.
Mr. Harris was born in Silver Springs and graduated from John F. Kennedy High School. He began his career with Marvaco Excavation as an equipment operator, later rising to chief job estimator. He co-founded Metrex Excavating and later co-founded and was president and shareholder of D.C. Materials and Palmer Road Landfill.
He was a member of Associated Builders and Contractors, the Maryland Aggregates Association and a suburban Maryland building industry association.
Mr. Harris was a member of Christadelphian Chapel in Adelphi. He loved to read, take long drives in his car or on his motorcycle and spend time with his family.
Survivors include his wife, Karen A. Harris, and daughter, Morgan Leigh Harris, both of Rockville; his mother, Jean K. Harris of Silver Spring; and three brothers, Richard W. Harris of Grand Ripids, Mich., Robert A. Harris of Davidsonville and Paul B. Harris of Silver Spring.
