Earl J. Andis, Sr., age 81, of Kingsport passed away on Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at Wellmont Holston Valley Medical Center.

A native of Jonesville, VA, he moved to Kingsport in 1952. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during WWII in the South Pacific.

He was a former employee of Bartlett Tree Expert Co, and Huddle Electric Co and retired from Palace Vending after 30 years of service.

He was a member of Vermont United Methodist Church on Bloomingdale Road. He had served as teacher and President of the Wesley Sunday School class. A lay speaker and on the Board of Trustees and on the Board of Missions. He had served as Vice-President of the Primetimers. He was a lifetime member of The Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Vesta Holcomb Andis; sisters, Effie Waddell and Ruby King; brothers, Sherman, Robert, Kenneth and Ted Andis; also brothers, Ransome, Larken, Mack, Richard, Henry and Albert Mullins.

Surviving are his wife, Betty Jean Keel Andis of the home; son, Earl (Chip) Andis, Jr. and wife Sandy of Orion, Michigan; grandsons, Barry Andis of Lake Orion, Michigan, Ben Andis of Chicago, Illinois, Nick and Brent Andis of San Franscisco, California; great-granddaughter, Zoe Elizabeth Andis of Lake Orion, Michigan; sister, Nancy Kinser Hollingsworth of Bloomdale, Ohio; several nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 24, 2009 in the J. Wayne Hamilton Memorial Chapel of Oak Hill Funeral Home from 1:00 P.M. until 2:30 P.M. Funeral Services will follow with Reverend Homer Roller and Reverend Spurgeon McCartt officiating.

Military graveside rites will be conducted at Oak Hill Memorial Park in the Garden of Resurrection on Saturday, January 24, 2009 following the funeral with Charles Dewitt Byrd Post #3382 of the V.F.W. officiating.

Grandsons, along with Tony Stamper and Lynn Kinser will serve as pallbearers.

Memorial contributions may be made to Vermont United Methodist Church.
