Obituary - Edna Marie (Robinson) Hobbs

Edna Marie Hobbs, 86, passed away Dec. 23, 2008, at the Hospice Care Center surrounded by family.

She was born Nov. 28, 1922, to Oren and Doris (Small) Robinson in Willis, Kan., where she grew up and graduated from high school.

Edna married Billy Dale Hobbs Nov. 26, 1946. Together they worked a farm for seven years and had their first three children in Kansas before moving to Longview in 1953. Later, they had three more children in Washington.

Edna was a homemaker for the 62 years she and Dale were married. She worked hard canning from the family gardens, and cooking and cleaning for the family of eight. Her home was always ready for company who might drop by. Sewing was one of her favorite pastimes, and she made good use of her talents making clothes for the family. Edna also crocheted many pieces, including doilies, table covers and a bedspread. She won many blue ribbons and "special awards" for her efforts at the local fairs.

Edna belonged to the Castle Rock Homemakers Club for years, and was a longtime secretary of the Sunday Niters Bowling League. She and Dale were part of the Early American Pattern Dancers with instructor Edna Mae, and as avid RVers, belonged to the Cowlitz Roadrunners RV Club.

After Dale's retirement in 1983, they became Arizona snowbirds for 20 years. There Edna won m any trophies for pitching horseshoes with Dale. She also enjoyed playing golf, dancing and word puzzles.

In addition to her husband, Edna is survived by her children, David Hobbs (Barb), Calvin Hobbs and Carol Farmer (Bob), all of Castle Rock, Dan Hobbs of Vancouver, and Karen Crawford (Mike) and Terry Hobbs, both of Longview; her grandchildren, Casey Vogel (Stacey), Carie Vogel, Tara Obermiller (Jayson), Jason Crawford, Monica McMillan (Kyle), Michelle Robertson (Danny), Donald Hobbs and Amanda Hobbs; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, Oscar Robinson of Horton, Kan.With her never-ending smile and sense of humor, she made friends easily and will be missed by those who knew her.

She was preceded in death by a brother and three sisters.

A funeral service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday at Steele Chapel at Longview Memorial Park. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to service time.
