CLAY CITY — Emerson Sutton, 89, of Venice, Fla., passed away July 25, 2009,
at Manor Care, in Venice. He was born in Clay County, on Oct. 21, 1919, the son
of Clifford and Mary Olive (Turner) Sutton. He served his country in the U.S.
Air Force. After returning from the military, he began working as a farmer for
17 years, and later worked as a coal miner for Amax Coal Mine, retiring in 1984.
He married Waneta Pell on March 8, 1947. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign
Wars Post 6606, American Legion Post 0225, United Mine Workers Association, and
the Eighth Street United Methodist Church.He was preceded in death by his
parents; all of his siblings; and a granddaughter, Christy Andis.Survivors
include his wife, Waneta; children, Marie Andis and husband John of Carmel, John
Sutton and wife Kim of Little Rock, Ark., and Cheryl Brune and husband Milton of
Guymon, Okla.; eight grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; as well as many
extended family members.Services will be at Schoppenhorst Funeral Home, in Clay
City, Thursday, July 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., with Pastor Steve Rundel officiating.
Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery. Visitation will be at the funeral
home Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the
Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
