Obituary - Earnest Eugene Fleenor

Earnest Eugene "Gene" Fleenor, 71, entered into the presence of the Lord and to be with his beloved wife Buena on Wednesday, August 27, 2008.

Gene was a native of Washington County, VA, but had lived in Sullivan Gardens since 1971. He had made his home with his stepson in Johnson City, TN since 2004.

He served his country in the United States Air Force. He had been employed with Monro in Bristol, North Electric in Gray, and Cardinal Health of Kingsport until retirement.

Gene loved his Lord and loved to praise him with his singing. He was a blessing to all who knew him. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church in Johnson City.

In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, Judge Paul and Hallie Fleenor; and brothers, Gerald Fleenor and Joe Fleenor.

He is survived by a daughter, Melissa Darlene Fleenor, Newton, NC; stepdaughter, Judith Ann Whetsel, Kingsport; two sons, Alan Lee Whetsel and wife Waunetta, Bristol and Jimmy Eric Whetsel and wife Gaylia, Johnson City; three grandsons, Nicholas Whetsel of Bristol, Eric Whetsel of Johnson City, and Mike Whetsel of Bristol. He is also survived by two sisters, Betty Sue Wilson and Carole McCroskey, both of Bristol, VA; one brother, Wayne Fleenor, Hendersonville, TN; and several nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. Saturday at Hamlett-Dobson Funeral Homes, Kingsport.
Services will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home with Rev. John Perkins and Rev. Kelly Dykes officiating.

Interment will be at Tri-Cities Memory Gardens immediately following the service.
Pallbearers will be Eric Whetsel, Hank Greene, Robbie McCroskey, James McCroskey, and Jonathan McCroskey.
Honorary pallbearers will be Employees of Life Care Center of Elizabethton and special friend, Jeremy Hunt.
