Henry L. Hollingsworth

Henry L. Hollingsworth of Bloomdale, OH passed away peacefully at Independence House, Fostoria, OH, on June 17, 2008.

He was born October 12, 1918 in Ashland, Delaware to Everett Levi and Bertha Pierce Hollingsworth.

Raised on a farm, he loved machinery of all kinds and even earned his pilot's license. He graduated from A.I. Dupont High School in Wilmington, DE in 1937 and received his Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Delaware in 1941. During WWII, he joined the U.S. Merchant Marine as an engineer and served from November 1943 through November 1945 on the Atlantic run.

He then took a position as an Instrument Engineer at E. I. Dupont de Nemours Co. During this time he met Dorothy Paterson of Toledo, Ohio and they were married on October 26, 1946. They had 2 children, Winifred Jo and John Paterson. Henry Hollingsworth held several positions as an engineer, working for Fischer & Porter, Electric Auto-Lite. Phelps Dodge Magnet Wire, Rea Magnet Wire and Fostoria Corporation. He received his Professional Engineer's license in 1957. Henry was also involved in starting up two companies: Mho Research and Filmtec, Inc. During his time with Mho Research he received two patents: one patent on a high speed wire take-up and spool changer and another on high-speed production of magnet wire. In 1969, in conjunction with local investors, he started Filmtec, Inc. to develop and market a low pollution, efficient, fine wire enameling system.

Due to market challenges, the company focus changed to wire spooling equipment with an emphasis on layer-wind takeups. Henry retired in 1999, after 30 years. He was well-loved by his employees--they were always glad for a "Henry-sighting" after he retired. The company remains active in 2008 under the leadership of his 2 children.

Henry Hollingsworth was a very religious man, and took several leadership positions at churches. While a member of Salem United Methodist Church, he met Nancy Kinser, whom he married on June 6, 1999. When he met the Lord, he was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bloomdale, OH. His farming roots were apparent in his love for small-town and country life. He loved his 13 acres in rural Bloomdale and delighted in planning his annual comprehensive vegetable garden, nurturing his fruit trees, and harvesting his woods.

He is survived by his wife of 9 years, Nancy Hollingsworth; his daughter, Jo; his son, John; stepsons, Jack, Gary, Ron and Lynn Kinser; 8 step-grandchildren; 6 step-great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents, Everett Levi and Bertha Pierce Hollingsworth; by his brothers, Irvin J II and Pierce, and sister, Elizabeth Ford; and his first wife, Dorothy Paterson Hollingsworth.

Visitation will take place Friday, June 20, 2008, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Mann-Hare-Hoening Funeral Home, 407 N. Countyline St., Fostoria, OH 44830. The funeral services will take place at the funeral home on Saturday, June 21, 2008 at 10 am, Pastor David Miller, officiating. Burial will follow at Knollcrest Cemetery, Arcadia where the United Veterans of Fostoria will provide military honors.
