Suddenly, on November 7, 2002, of Gloucester City, NJ. Age 59.

Loving husband of Kathleen (nee Arthur) for 35 years. Devoted father of David Townsend of Gloucester City, Therese E. Batchelor of Gloucester City and Kathleen M. Suckiel (husband Scott) of Gloucester City. Dear Grandfather of Ryan, Brittany, Christopher, and Tyler.

George was born in Abingdon, Virginia and was longtime resident of Gloucester City. He was a longtime parishioner of Saint Mary's R.C. Church Church in Gloucester City, member of the Gloucester City Knights of Columbus Council # 674 in Gloucester City and is a recent member of the Bishop Eustace's 4th Degree Assembly in Haddon Township. Mr. Townsend was a millworker for Middle Atlantic Millworks in Woodbury Heights. He was a scout master and unit commissioner for Gloucester City Boy Scouts, member of the Gloucester City Historical Society, member of the Gloucester City Town Watch. Also, he was a volunteer for the Battleship N.J. in Camden, NJ and was a member of the Teamsters Local #676, volunteered for the Meals on Wheels Program in Gloucester City. He was a member of the Gloucester City Auxiliary Police, member of the Gloucester City Jaycees and worker and janitor for Alice Costello School in Brooklawn.

Relatives and friends and all fellow volunteers are kindly invited to attend his viewing on Sunday evening from 7 to 9 pm and Monday morning from 8:30 to 9:30 am from the McCANN FUNERAL HOME: 851 Monmouth Street (at Brown Street) Gloucester City. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 am from Saint Mary's R.C. Church: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family. The family requests that memorial donations be made to Saint Mary's Tuition Fund: 426 Monmouth Street, Gloucester City, NJ 08030 or to Needy Childrens' Christmas Fund: P.O.
