Gilmer Clyde Mullins, 59, Gray, Tenn., went to be with the Lord Thursday (July 12, 2007), at his home with his family by his side after a courageous battle with cancer.

He was born in Russell County, Va., and had lived most of his life in this area. He served in the U.S. Army in the 8th Engineer Division and the 1st Calvary Division during the Vietnam Conflict, and was awarded medals for Good Conduct, Army Commendation, The Bronze Star, Vietnam Service and the Vietnam Campaign. He was a member of the Tenn. National Guard in Erwin and attended Greenvale Baptist Church in Gray.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernia and Gertha (Osborne) Mullins; two sisters, Juanita Patrick and Jane Whitley.

Gilmer is survived by his wife, Jennifer D. Mullins, of the home; daughters, Marti Blais, Jacksonville, Fla., Rachel McCurry and husband, Samuel, Gray, Tn.; son, John Mullins, Gray, Tn.; grandsons, Caine Blais, Matthew Mullins, Shane Mullins, Hunter Mullins; sisters, Vergie Williams, Kingsport, Nancy Hardy, Rocky Mount, Va., Flossie Kennedy, Gray, Mollie Dober, Summerville, Ga., Charlene Stacy, Mt. Carmel; half-sisters, Lana Spirko, Lisa Winebarger, Teresa Manles, Frances Head; brothers, Robert Mullins, Harold Mullins, both of Mt. Carmel, Junior Mullins, Church Hill; half brother, Larry Mullins; several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Saturday (July 14, 2007) from 4 to 7 p.m. at Carter-Trent Funeral Home, Kingsport. Friends may also visit anytime at the residence of 512 Hales Chapel Rd., Gray, Tn.

Funeral service will be Saturday at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Jackie Bradley and Rev. Wrightly Salling officiating. Music will be provided by Jackie Bradley.

A military graveside service will be conducted Sunday at Holston View Cemetery at 1 p.m. with the VFW Post 3382 and the Virginia National Guard, Chaplain Frank McConnell. Pallbearers will be the VFW Color Guard. Honorary Pallbearers will be Lawrence Winnegar and L.D. Harris. Friends and family who wish to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home at 12 noon.
