James Monroe "Jim" Saul Sr., 76, of 284 Clear Branch Circle died Tuesday, Sept. 5, 2000, in the James H. Quillen Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Mountain Home, TN. He was born in Spotsylvania County, VA, and had lived in the Blountville area for the past 56 years. He was a former employee of Fred Ford for many years and retired from Northeast State Technical Community College. 

He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the European Theater with the 120th Infantry. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for wounds received in Germany. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans Chapter 40 and Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975. Mr. Saul was a member of Cross United Methodist Church, serving in many positions. 

Surviving are his wife of 54 years, Beulah Cross Saul; a son, the Rev. Jim M. (Toby Vanhook) Saul Jr. of Kernersville, NC; two daughters, Mrs. Eddie (Jane) Minnick and Mrs. Creg (Shirley) Bishop, both of Blountville; three sisters, Frances E. Saul of Abingdon, Doris Stevens McCracken of Bristol VA and Anna S. Riffe of Bluff City; two brothers, Samuel H. Saul of Bristol TN, Charles "Pat" Saul of Winder, GA; six granddaughters; two great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. 

Funeral services will be conducted Friday at 3 p.m. in Cross United Methodist Church. The Revs. Harry Fleenor and Edwin Carter Jr. will officiate. Burial will be in Tri-Cities Memory Gardens with military funeral rites by Patton-Crosswhite VFW Post 6975 Honor Guard. 

Among survivors are granddaughters Andrea Bishop, Emma Wright, Rhonda Coleman, Sarah Seehorn, Amy Smith and Heather Woody; great-grandchildren Katlyn Smith and Hannah Woody; and several cousins. Pallbearers will be relatives. Honorary pallbearers will be granddaughters and members of the Emanon and Happy Camper Club. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Cross United Methodist Church, 625 Cross Community Road, Bristol, TN 37620. Akard Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
