Obituary - Kenneth Franklin Townsend

Mr. Kenneth Franklin Townsend, age 61, passed away on Thursday, April 3, 2008 in the Wellmont Regional Medical Center. He was born on March 22, 1947 in Washington County, Virginia and lived most of his life in the Smith Creek section of Bristol, Virginia. He was preceded in death by his father, Charlie Luther Townsend and one brother, Walter Malcolm Townsend. He was a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Transportation and worked out of the Benham?s area. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved the outdoors.

Survivors include his wife of forty one years, Wilma Townsend; His mother, Maxie Sunshine Townsend; his two daughters, Felicia Hearl and Melody Baldwin & husband Randy. Two grandchildren that were Papaw?s best buddy & friend, Ricky Junior Mabe and Papaw?s little girl, Lisa Kay Baldwin; He is survived by one sister, Doris Caldwell and husband Bill of Rural Retreat, Virginia; Two brothers, David Allen Townsend of Marion, Virginia and Dennis Luther Townsend and wife Betty of Panama City, Florida; Several Nieces and Nephews.

Funeral services for Kenneth F. Townsend will be conducted at 8:00 P.M. on Saturday, April 5, 2008 in the Frost Funeral Home Chapel with the Pastor Kenneth Widner officiating. The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 7:50 P.M. on Saturday evening, prior to the service at 8:00 P.M. The committal service and entombment will be held on Sunday, April 6, 2008 in the Chapel of Memories Mausoleum on the grounds of Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The family asks that you meet at the cemetery by 1:45 P.M. on Sunday for the service. Pallbearers will be Abe Mann, Blake Andis, Gary Andis, Wade Andis, Todd Caldwell and Tyrus Caldwell. Honorary pallbearers will be Mr. G.H. Andis, Mr. Earl Cox, Mr. Bobby McCroskey, Mr. Randall Eades & Mr. Bill Caldwell. The family would like to express their gratitude to all the staff of Bristol Wellmont who helped with the care that was given to Kenneth Townsend. They would also like to say a very special thank you for all the prayers and compassion Pastor Kenneth Widner and Pastor Bryan Treadway showed our family during our time of need. In lieu of flowers the family asks that Memorial Contributions be made to Baldwin?s Rest Home, 921 Hillman Highway, Abingdon, Virginia 24210 in memory of Kenneth F. Townsend.
