Lura Ellen "Sis" Garrett ABINGDON, Va. Lura Ellen "Sis" Garrett passed away on Monday, April 26, 2010, at her residence after a long illness. 

Born in Tazewell County, Va., she was the daughter of the late Jack and Ray Wilson Tackett and the step-daughter of the late Estelle Robinson Wilson. She was a resident of Washington County, Va., most of her life and was a member of Carvosso United Methodist Church. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She attended Pocahontas High School, graduated from Liberty Hall High School and Mary Dalton Frye Private Business School. She was retired from the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation where she served as the Southwest Virginia Division Director. 

She had worked several years at Emory & Henry College as secretary to the executive assistant to the president, in the business office and the office of religious life. She had also worked at Johnston Memorial Clinic and Peoples Life Insurance Company. 

In addition to her parents and step-mother, Mrs. Garrett was also preceded in death by her husband of 45 years, William "Bill" T. Garrett Sr., and a brother, John "Buddy" F. Wilson. She is survived by two daughters, Susan Garrett and husband John Fern of Abingdon, and Sherry Weddle and husband Harold of Meadowview, Va.; three sons, William "Bill" Garrett Jr. and fianc? Maria Litton of Bristol Virginia, Terry Garrett and wife Sabrina of Glade Spring, Va., and John Garrett and wife Bernnadette of Abingdon; three sisters, Barbara Bishop and husband Jim of Damascus, Va., Janet Barr and husband Stanley of Mill Creek, Va., Reva Spry and husband Barry of Abingdon; two brothers, Jack Wilson and wife Charlotte of Bristol Virginia and Danny Wilson and wife Rebecca of Abingdon; one step-sister, Sonia Robinson and husband Larry Petersek of Abingdon; two step-brothers, Charles Robinson and wife Marie of St. Paul, Va., Eddie Robinson and wife Eve of Honolulu ,Hawaii; six grandchildren, Jeremy Garrett, Tracy Garrett, Cody and Kelsey Weddle, Seth and Andy Garrett; and several nieces and nephews. 

 graveside service will be conducted at 1 p.m. on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in the Forest Hills Memory Gardens. The Rev. Leonard Smith will officiate. Active pallbearers will be Cody Weddle, Seth Garrett, Andy Garrett and her nephews, Mike Bishop, Emory Bishop, Reid Barr, Pat Maiden, Nick Maiden, Johnny Wilson and Bob Wilson. Her family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening at the Frost Funeral Home. Friends may also visit anytime at Mrs. Garrett's home.
