MAE DENE ELIZABETH ELLIS
"The World is diminished without you in it!"
Mae Dene Ellis was born May 10, 1925 to Ira Bentley and Mae Bowman Ellis in Rocky Ford and died of pneumonia January 26, 2002 in Rocky Ford, where she'd moved a month before.
Mae Dene's friends and family will miss her indomitable spirit. She endured severe arthritis for years, but maintained her sense of humor, intellegence and interest in community and world events. She also played the piano beautifully for years.
Mae Dene graduated from Rocky Ford High School in 1944 and from the University of Colorado in 1948 with a degree in journalism. She worked in California, and at Rocky Ford and Pueblo radio stations before moving with her mother to Colorado in the mid 1960's. She did copy writing and secretarial work at KKTV, then served as traffic manager at KVOR radio.
Before retiring, Mae Dene worked for Broadcast Computer Services and was part of the team that developed the first computer system for television. Her boss, George Beattie, said "Mae Dene was an excellent employee and a very interesting and wonderful lady."
Mae Dene was buried at Hillcrest Cemetery in Rocky Ford on February 1.
