Margaret Madison "Peggy" Kegley, age 81, departed this life on Wednesday, May 13, 2009.

She was a native of Chilhowie, a 1945 graduate of Chilhowie High School, a 1949 graduate of Emory & Henry College, and a retired teacher from the Smyth County School System.

Always devoted to her family, Peggy was known as "Pippy" to her grandchildren and many other loved ones. Hers was a life that seemed to draw from an endless pool of energy. Rooted in a rare love of God, her gift was selflessly sharing that life with others. She nourished many with her abundant love and homemade bread and cherished her choir and church family at Chilhowie United Methodist Church, where she was a lifelong member.

She was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband, Richard Eldridge "Dick" Kegley, whom she had missed dearly since his passing in 1998.

She will be truly missed by her family, including her daughters and sons-in-law, Tamara and Arlin Ball of Houston and Kyra and Tom Bishop of Chilhowie; sons and daughters-in-law, Steven and Susan Kegley of Bristol and Dickie and Dawn Kegley of Chilhowie; 12 grandchildren, Shelley and Jeremy Blevins, Leslie and Chris Brewer, Tommy Bishop and his fiancée Hannah Kaska, Mick Kegley and his fiancée Amy Kornett, Lynzi Kegley, Eric, Brandon and Paige Kegley; two great-grandchildren, Bise and Lettie Blevins; two sisters, Mary Fill and Nancy Vaughan; one brother, Ed Madison and his wife Dian; as well as several nieces and nephews. She was also blessed with many special friends, young and old.

The family will receive friends on Friday evening from 5 to 8 at the Chilhowie United Methodist Church, 501 Old Stage Road, Chilhowie, Va. Funeral services will be conducted at the Chilhowie United Methodist Church on Saturday morning, May 16, at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Dr. David St. Clair officiating. The burial will be held following the service in the Westwood Memorial Gardens.

Pallbearers are her grandsons and Trevor Mensch. Honorary pallbearers are her church family.
