NORA MAY DARDEN

Nora May Chesser Darden, 77, of Vidor, died Thursday, February 19, 2010, at Christus St. Elizabeth after fighting a long battle of illness. She was born to parents Abshire and Ruby Chesser in Vidor, Texas in August 26, 1932. She married in 1947 to homer (Buddy) Darden, Jr., which shared her life for 62 years. She was a member of North Main Church of Christ. She was a homemaker and a talented seamstress. She loved to quilt, crochet, and she was an accomplished painter and painted each of the children and grandchildren several paintings. And in earlier years, she loved to fish. She worked at Wood's Super Market as a cashier, Vidor State Bank as a teller, and the Pine Forest School cafeteria. She was a member of the Lone Star Texas African Violet Council for many years, which she received numerous awards for growing and showing her beautiful violets. She also took first prize for a quilt that she had shown at the Southeast Texas State Fair. 

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Homer (Buddy) Darden; daughter Brenda Jones and her husband Terry; daughter Diane Smith and her husband Bruce; and daughter Rhonda Bachman and her husband Reuben all of Vidor. She has six grandchildren; Scott Andis and his wife Victoria, Kim Barton, Patricia Rice and her husband Lincoln all of Vidor; SFC David Smith of Iraq and his wife of Ft. Lewis, Washington, Christopher Simmons and his wife Angie of Vidor; Sheila Ledford and her husband J.R. of Austin. Her great-grandchildren are; Madison and Darcy Andis, Zachery and Hunter Barton, Seairra, Melody, McKenna and Sean Smith, Blake and Damian Simmons, Alexis and Miley Rice, and Chloe Bachman. She is also survived by her brothers, Don Chesser of Beaumont, James Chesser of Vidor, and Carl Chesser of Fannett; sisters Ilene Ramsey of Vidor and Lynda Sarver of Sachee, Texas. She was preceded in death by her parents Abshire and Ruby Chesser; son-in-law Frank Andis; sister Loretta Byerly and brothers Alton, Melvin, Wayne , and John Chesser. 

Services will be held Memorial Funeral Home of Vidor, on Thursday, February 25, 2010 at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at Restlawn memorial Park in Vidor. Mark Legende, minister of North Main Church of Christ will officiate. A gathering of family and friends will begin at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at Memorial Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be Scott Andis, Christopher Simmons, SFC David Smith, Don Chesser, James Chesser, Carl Chesser. Honorary pallbearers are Lincoln Rice and J.R. Ledford.
