Oneva Ruth Martin

Oneva `Ruth` Martin died at Mercy Health Center in Oklahoma City on Wednesday July 11, 2007. She was 87 years old. Although Ruth enjoyed good health most of her life, unexpected complications from a hip fracture caused her death. Ruth was born on October 21, 1919 in Sheridan, Arkansas to Mabel and P.E. Andis. At a very young age, the family moved to Western Oklahoma where she grew up on a farm and graduated from Geary High School. 

On December 23, 1940 she married Eldon Martin at her parents` home near Geary. For more than 40 years Ruth worked side-by-side with her husband on the farm and ranch operation they owned southwest of Watonga until their retirement in 1995. Ruth`s love for God was evident throughout her entire life. As a long-time member of the Nazarene Church, she was always active in teaching Sunday School classes, playing the piano, and serving as Treasurer. A very important aspect of Ruth`s life was her devotion to her family. She always enjoyed preparing meals for family gatherings where she could enjoy the company of her ever-growing family. 

Ruth is survived by her three children: daughter Ellen Hall, Yukon, Oklahoma: son Elvin Martin and his wife Ann of El Reno, Oklahoma; son Dwight Martin and his wife Susan of Springfield, Missouri; eight grandchildren and nineteen great-grandchildren She is also survived by two brothers, Jim Andis and David Andis. 

In addition to her parents, Ruth was preceded in death by her husband Eldon, three sisters Ramona Krober, Euseba Quinn, Marlys Knapp, and two brothers Emmett Andis and Emory Andis. Funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Friday, July 13, 2007 at Metroplex Church of the Nazarene in Oklahoma City with Rev. Philip Kimberling officiating. Interment will be at IOOF Cemetery in Watonga, Oklahoma. Family and friends may visit prior to the service at Mercer-Adams Funeral Home in Bethany.
