Pansye Marie Neal

CONNERSVILLE — Pansye Marie Neal, 86, went home to be with the Lord Friday evening at Caroleton Manor where she had been for two days.

Born June 8, 1921, in Algiers, Ind., she was the daughter of Herschel and Grace (Horton) Loveless.

She attended school in Algiers, and was advanced two classes graduating second in her class at age 16. However, because of the depression she was unable to attend college. Her family later moved to Washington. She had worked as head bookkeeper for Montgomery Ward in Washington and later as a bookkeeper for the Union Oil Company. She worked at Dogwood State Park. She moved to Connersville in 1990 to be close to her daughter.

She was a member of the Algiers Methodist Church where as a young girl she was their pianist. She regularly attended First United Methodist Church in Connersville until her health prevented it. She supported the TV ministry and watched the service every Sunday. She was a member of the Women’s class and later the Producers-Seekers Class. She had worked on the Food Committee for the annual Tasty Luncheon and for several years with the Craft Groups.

Mrs. Neal loved gardening and she and Mr. Neal were avid organic gardeners and had an article written about them in the Fort Wayne newspaper. She enjoyed cooking and doing crafts and sharing both with family and friends. She was a treasure to her family and a loyal friend.

She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Donna R. and Dr. K. Phillip Greene of Connersville; three granddaughters and grandsons-in-law, Lisa and Brad Caldwell of O’Fallon, Mo., Beth and Mike Vanover and Kristi and Jeff Martin, all of Connersville; great-grandchildren, Ryan and Jennifer Caldwell of O’Fallon and Matt and Kelsi Vanover and Elisabeth Grace, Zachariah and Jasper Martin, all of Connersville; and two cousins in California and Nebraska.

Her husband, Donald E. Harris, whom she married in 1939 and with whom she had one daughter, died six years later. In 1953 she married James Gibbon “Gib” Essig. He died of a heart attack in 1970 while they were visiting his sister in St. Louis. She met John H. Neal, a widower from Fort Wayne and they were married March 30, 1974. They lived in Fort Wayne for a short time, but returned to Washington to care for her ailing father in their home. Mr. Neal died in 1989 from complications following surgery.

Her parents and two brothers, Paul H. and Randall G. Loveless, are also deceased.

The funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Dave Galbraith officiating. Burial will be in Dale Cemetery.

Friends may call Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at Urban-Winkler Funeral Home.
