CHANNING - Richard Clyde Shepherd Jr., 79, died Saturday, Jan. 20, 2007, in Amarillo.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Channing Public School Gymnasium. Mr. Shepherd will then be laid to rest next to his wife in Channing Cemetery. Arrangements are by Horizon Funeral Home of Dalhart.

Mr. Shepherd attended school at Buffalo Flats and later served two years in the U.S. Army. While working on the JA Ranch near Clarendon, Clyde met Beverly Ruth O'Neal. They were married Sept. 18, 1954. A lifelong cowboy and rancher, many of the ranches Clyde made tracks on include the Upper and Lower Matador, Rentfro, Burson, JA, SJ, McCarty and McCloy.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Beverly; a premature son; his parents; and a brother, Phillip "Red" Shepherd.

He will be greatly missed by his two daughters, Linda Preston and Cindi Cates of Channing, their husbands, Dennis and Don; three grandchildren, Hayden, Kelly and Layce; two great-grandchildren, Keegan and Everlee; a brother, Frank Shepherd of Channing; and two sisters, Sue Cunningham of Hartley and Jean Cates of Amarillo.

The family suggests memorials be to Channing Cemetery Fund, in care of the Hartley County Courthouse.
