Robert R. "Mac" McCauley, 76, of 1321 W. Division died Monday, May 9, at a local hospital.
Memorial services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Gollaher Chapel at Trinity United Methodist Church. The Rev. William Doran will officiate.

There will be no visitation. Apfel-Butler-Feddes [sic--Geddes] Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Memorials are suggested to Trinity United Methodist Church Scholarship or the Friends of Henry Fonda for the Establishment of a Theatrical Endowment.

Mr. McCauley was born Oct. 23, 1917, at Lincoln to Peter and Mabel (Coleman) McCauley. He grew up and received his education at Humbolt, graduating from Humbolt High School. He attended the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and graduated with a bachelor of science degree in pharmacy.

After graduation he worked at Wayne until being drafted into the U. S. Army during World War II. He served with the 44th Evacuation Hospital and was involved in action during the Battle of the Bulge.

After his discharge he went to work at Broken Bow.

He married Ruth Whitney Carland on May 18, 1946, at Lexington. In 1955 they moved to Grand Island where he was chief pharmacist of the New Veteran?s Memorial Hospital. Mr. McCauley retired in 1977, but he remained active in the Grand Island community until his death.

Mr. McCauley was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church, the University Marching Band and played in a polka band in Humboldt [sic] while attending college. He was also a member of the Veteran?s [sic] of Foreign Wars, Masonic Lodge, Grand Island Saddle Club, Brownville Historical Society, Stuhr Museum and the University of Nebraska Alumni Band. He was also a charter member of ?The Friends of Henry Fonda.? Mr. McCauley was a 50-year member of the Nebraska College of Pharmacy Alumni.

Survivors include his wife, Ruth; a son, Robert McCauley of Dallas, Texas; two daughters, Bonnie Huhfer of Hastings and Lizbeth "Libby" Mader of Grand Island; six grandchildren; and a sister, Gladys Christenson of Sterling, Colo.

He was preceded in death by an infant son, James.
