BIXBY, Ruth Sherfey Sproles

Ruth Sherfey Sproles Bixby, 95, of Bristol, Va. passed away on January 19, 2006 at Bristol Regional Medical Center. She was born in Bristol, Va. a daughter to the late Bob and Ella Clark Sherfey and had returned to Bristol from Salem, VA in 1994. Ms. Bixby was a former nurse's assistant at Catawba Hospital and was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. Survivors include, daughters, Almeda S. Kelly of Salem, Va. and Minnie Shortt of Bristol, Va.; half brother, Carl Sheffey of Bristol, Tenn,; five grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; one greatgreat-stepgrandson. Funeral services will be held at Weaver Funeral Home in Bristol, Tenn. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Virginia Baptist Children's Home at P.O. Box 190, Salem, Va. 24153. Funeral Service: Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 21, 2006 at 6 pm in the Weaver Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Joe Hudson officiating assisted by Rev. Todd Freeman.

Interment: Committal services will be held on Sunday at 2 pm at Mountain View Cemetery.

Ruth Sherfey Sproles Bixby, age 95, of Bristol, VA took a long awaited journey to Heaven on Thursday, January 19, 2006. She was preceded in death by husbands, John Sproles and Charles Bixby, three children – Margaret, Vernon, and Ernest Sproles, three grandsons – Danny and Tim Kelley and Nathan Shortt, a half brother – Dave Sheffey, and sons-in-law – Elwood Shortt and R. C. Kelly. Ms. Bixby lived the life she believed. She loved the Lord and did not miss an opportunity to tell all those she came in contact with about His love. She was a retired nursing assistant from Catawba Hospital in Catawba, VA. She was a member of Tennessee Avenue Baptist Church. She taught Sunday School for many years and was an active member of the Salem 49ers club and played the washboard for their band. She loved all animals, hers and the neighbors and fed them all.

Survivors include: Daughters – Almeda Kelly of Salem, VA and Minnie Shortt of Bristol, VA

Half Brother – Carl Sheffey of Bristol, TN

Grandchildren – Brenda Sauls and husband Ken, Larry Shortt and wife Sandy, John Kelly and wife Terri, Robin Riggs and husband Lee

Great Grandchildren – Travis Sauls and wife Lori, Charlotte Hanks and husband Woody, Michael Robinson, Matthew Johnson, Amber Kelly, Nicki Kelly, and Noah Kelly

Great Great Grandchildren – Katelyn Sauls, Walker Sauls, Alexis Hanks, and Tyler Robinson

Care Giver and friend – Pam Manuel and “Hattie Girl”
