LATHAM - Virgil L. "Sonny" Prior Jr., 62, of Latham, died at 12:05 a.m. Monday (Aug. 5, 1996) at his residence. His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Fricke-Calvert-Schrader Funeral Home, Mount Pulaski, Bill Shanle officiating. Burial will be in Camp Butler National Cemetery, Springfield, with the Rev. Darrell Parr officiating and full military rites accorded. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to First Christian Church of Mechanicsburg or Dr. Wayne J. Schall Hospice of Lincoln.

Surviving are two daughters, Launa Kay Prior and Penny Sue Naylor, both of Springfield; one son, Perry Wayne Prior, Farmer City; his fiancee, Loriene Werkman Dunn, Latham; and one sister, Mary Lane, Mechanicsburg.

Also surviving are three grandchildren, Brandon and Cody Prior, Mount Auburn; and Seth Naylor, Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents, one sister and one brother preceded him in death.

He was born May 26, 1934, in Osborneville, a son of Virgil Lee Sr. and Opal Andis Prior. He married Anna Mae Corday in 1955. She died Oct. 3, 1980.

Mr. Prior was foreman of the seal coating department at Dunn Co. of Decatur, retiring after six years. He also worked at E.T. Allen and Sons of Illiopolis for 30 years and DeKalb Poultry Research of Illiopolis for five years.

He served in the Army from 1956 to 1958.

He was a member of First Christian Church of Mechanicsburg. His favorite pastimes were crappie fishing and caring for his vegetable garden.
