William McCracken Jr.


William Wood McCracken Jr., 59, 1004 Wykoff Lane, died at 7 a.m. Monday at his residence after a 2 1/2-year illness.

Born May 12, 1947, in Daviess County, he was the son of Ruby Juanita (Hill) and William Wood McCracken Sr.

A 1966 graduate of Barr-Reeve High School, he served in the Indiana National Guard from 1972 to 1978. He received a degree in heating, air conditioning and refrigeration technology at Oakland City University. He had worked at McCracken and Co., Loogootee Textile, McCords, Uniroyal and for 24 years at Hoover Precision Products. Until his illness he was employed by Kocolene Marketing, d/b/a Fast Max, and Washington Highland Apartments.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Sue (Johnston) McCracken, whom he married Jan. 3, 1976; daughters and son-in-law, Elizabeth Jane and Harry Cook of Bridgeton, N.J., and Sarah Ann McCracken of Petersburg; sons, Charles Edward McCracken of Louisville, Ky., Damion Ray and Derrick Wood McCracken, both of Washington; stepson, Brian Lynn McCracken of Lincoln, Neb.; sisters, Faye Lazzette Hall of Indianapolis, and Susan Ellen McCracken of Greenwood; brother, David Lee McCracken of Dallas, Texas; seven granddaughters, one grandson, two great-granddaughters, two step-grandsons and one step-granddaughter.

The funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Gill Chapel, with Rev. Jeff Frederick officiating. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday and after 11 a.m. Friday at the funeral home.
