Wilma Jean Sargent


WABASH — Wilma Jean Sargent, 72, died at 7:48 p.m. Thursday at her home.

Born Aug. 6, 1935, in Daviess County, she was the daughter of Rexell and Bernice (Fox) Padgett.

A 1954 graduate of Washington High School, Wilma and her husband, Doyne, moved to Wabash in 1965 from Elnora, where Doyne started his teaching career and Wilma raised their children. For many years, Wilma worked at West Ward Elementary School as a lunch aide, and she also sold Avon. She always enjoyed meeting people and sharing her love of cooking with all. Wilma was a member of Wabash First United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Doyne Sargent, whom she married June 9, 1956; two daughters, Donna Sargent of Richmond, Va., and Dianna Sargent of Wabash; two sons and daughters-in-law, Dan and Nancy Sargent of Noblesville and David and Melanie Sargent of Ripley, Tenn.; two grandchildren, Sarah Sargent and Christopher Sargent, both of Noblesville; her mother, Bernice Padgett of Waukegan, Ill.; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce and Ron Binning of Waukegan; three brothers and two sisters-in-law, Larry and Judy Padgett and Mike Padgett, all of Washington, and Don and Lynn Padgett of Southern Pines, N.C.

Her father, Rexell Padgett, and a sister, Lorene Padgett, are deceased.

The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Poindexter-Hall and McClure Funeral Home, Odon chapel. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, Elnora.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. A visitation was also held Sunday at Grandstaff-Hentgen Funeral Service, Wabash.
