Antoinette Jean Shelley, 83, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday, May 5, 2007. She had been living at Villa Serra Retirement Community for several years.

Jean, as she was known to family and friends, was born and raised in Monterey, California. Both of her parents immigrated to Monterey from Sicily and were part of the fishing industry in Monterey. Jean and her husband, Robert, lived in various countries around the world while Robert served in the U.S. Army. After retirement they settled in Salinas to raise their family of three children.

Jean will always be remembered by family and friends for her gentle manner, kind words to all and her wonderful cookies which she baked every holiday for her family. Jean loved to bake, cook, sew and spend time with her grandchildren, whom she loved and enjoyed with all her heart.

Her husband, soul mate and life companion, Robert Shelley, Sr. preceded her in death as well as her eldest child Robert Shelley, Jr. and sister Mae Abinante. Jean leaves behind her brother, who was one of her best friends, Randy Randazzo (Char) of Carmel Valley, sister Ruth (Bill) Murphy of New Mexico and her "little" sister Marie (Tom) Kassing-Mastre of Salinas. Two daughters who will carry on the memory of their mother are Geraldine (Hossein) Vafa and Helen (Brian) Brtan. Jean leaves behind, five grandchildren, one great-grandson and numerous nieces and nephews.
