Obituary - Barbara Louise (Lindusky) Oakes

 Barbara Oakes died peacefully at Christopher House in Austin early Monday morning, February 15, 2016. 

Barbara was born on June 18, 1938, in St. Paul, Minnesota to Agnes Schauls Lindusky and William Lindusky. 

She grew up in Saint Paul with her sisters Joan Lindusky, Mary Heisenfelt and Wilma Lambert. Barbara graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy Class of 1956 then from St. Catherine University Class of 1960 in Saint Paul, Minnesota. 

Barbara met her future husband and love of her life Millis Henry ‘Bud’ while working at Many Glacier Hotel in Glacier National Park while he was with Union Oil in Cut Bank, Montana.  They fell in love and corresponded by mail before they married on July 15th 1961 and moved to Cut Bank Montana where Millis Jeffery was born.  The small young family moved to Casper Wyoming where Stephen and Elizabeth were born.  Bud then took a position with Atlantic Richfield in Corpus Christi, Texas where Barbara was involved with the Cub Scouts and became the President of the PTA for Kostoryz Elementary. 

 The family then moved to Jakarta, Indonesia where Barbara was active with the local leper colony, Boy Scouts and again became the President of the Joint Embassy School PTA.  The family then moved to Lafayette, Louisiana where Ben and Matt were born.  In Houston Barbara was active with fashion shows with Saks 5th Avenue and Sakowitz Furs as well as with Northgate Country Club and was the President of the Westfield PTA .  Barbara also worked with Battered Women’s Shelter Houston/Star of Hope Mission.  After retiring, Bud and Barbara moved to Canyon Lake, Texas where they spend their time volunteering at Tye Preston Library, Mid-Texas Symphony and St. Thomas the Apostle Church.

Barbara is survived by her 3 sisters, her 5 children Millis Jeffrey (Kelly), Stephen (Cheryl), Elizabeth (Bill), Ben (Karen), and Matt (Joe), her 7 grandchildren Emily, Joan, Wesley, Millis Zachary, Aubrey, Jacob and Ethan.

Memorial service will be 10am Wednesday, February 24th, at St. Thomas The Apostle Church in Canyon Lake.
 In lieu of flowers the family ask Memorials be sent to Mid-Texas Symphony, Tye Preston Library at Canyon Lake, or St. Thomas the Apostle at Canyon Lake Texas.
