Obituary - Byron Bernard Lunday
Byron Bernard (BB) Lunday, of Rocky Ford, CO, passed away Monday,
February 16, 2015. He led a full and happy life to the ripe old age of 91.
Byron was born in Newdale, CO on March 3, 1923, a son of the late Belva
(Sanders) and LeRoy Lunday.
After graduating high school in 1941, he worked for Robertson Dairy in Rocky
Ford until he entered the Army Air Corp in 1942. While in the Army, he spent
most of his enlisted time in China, Burma, and India. Upon discharge, in
1946, he then returned home to Rocky Ford, married Shirley Lusk, and then
began farming until 1958. He then purchased and operated Lunday Oil Company
in Rocky Ford until 1968. BB then managed the Rocky Ford Onion Growers COOP
until retirement in 1988.
He was the husband of Shirley Charlene (Lusk) Lunday, they were married at
Syracuse, KS on June 4, 1947 and he was privileged to be married to the same
woman for 67 years.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Rocky Ford, CO.
BB was a member of the Rocky Ford Country Club and served as past Exalted
Ruler of the Rocky Ford ELKS #1147. After retirement, he was still active in
farming and played golf every day until 2014. His two loves in life, other
than his wife, were golfing and farming. He was always growing something
somewhere.
He is survived by his wife Shirley of the home; Son Dennis Lunday, of
Pueblo, CO; Daughter Melinda, wife of Steve Konishi, of Visalia, CA; Son
Steve Lunday, of Rocky Ford, CO. He is also survived by 6 grandchildren & 8
great-grandchildren.
BB was preceded in death by his parents & 4 brothers.
Memorial Services will be at the First United Methodist Church, Rocky Ford,
CO, at 11:00 AM on Friday, February 20th, with Pastor Marty Lee and Pastor
John Dell officiating. There will be no viewing as cremation has been
effected. Inurnment will be private at a later time. Family request
donations to First United Methodist Church 301 W. Washington Rocky Ford, CO
81067.
