SOUTH BEND - Charles O. Salkeld, 84, of East Madison Street, died at 11:50 p.m. Friday in his home. Mr. Salkeld was owner of the former South Bend Sewing Machine Center, retiring in 1977. He was born March 4, 1912, in New Albany, Ind., coming to South Bend in 1959 from New Albany. On May 27, 1978, in Las Vegas, he married Autumn D. Klise. She survives with two daughters, Mary Kay Freel of South Bend and Janice Infalt of Tarpon Springs, Fla.; two sons, C.T. Salk, D.D.S., and Clark Salkeld, both of Fort Wayne; a stepdaughter, Karen Klise of Berkeley, Calif.; a stepson, Robert Klise of Indianapolis; 18 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; a sister, Cathern Voigner of Jeffersonville, Ind.; and a brother, Bud of Louisville, Ky. He was a member of Grace United Methodist Church and attended First Baptist Church of South Bend, Portage Lodge 675 F & AM, Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite and Shrine Orak Temple. Also AANMS of Michigan City, Elks BPOE 2284, New Port Richey, Fla.; Morris Park Country Club, Beacon Woods Golf Club, Bayonet Point, Fla.; Moose Lodge 58 and Four Lakes Country Club, Adamsville. 

Services will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in First Baptist Church. Burial will be in Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday in McGann Funeral Home, 2313 E. Edison Road, where a Masonic service will be at 7 p.m., and one hour before services Tuesday in the church. Memorial contributions may be made to either church, Hospice of St. Joseph County or Shriners Hospital for Crippled Children.
