Clarence (Mutt) Carter of Dryden, VA was born in Lee County, VA on Friday, June 15, 1923 and passed from this life on Friday, March 8, 2013 at Lee Nursing and Rehab in Pennington Gap, VA at the age of 89 years. He was a member of Admant Baptist Church. He, along with his wife, Cora, managed Western Auto in Pennington Gap for many years. He later worked as a dispatcher for the Pennington Gap Police Department before retirement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Claude and Isabelle Shepard Carter. His daughter, Sherryen Thompson. Grandson, Brian Thompson. Sisters, Francis McDavid, Geneva Rose and Marion Garrett. One brother, Kenneth (Cartwheel) Carter.

He is survived by his wife, Cora Carter of Lee Nursing and Rehab in Pennington Gap. His son, Randall Keith Carter and wife Dorothy of Dryden, VA. Step-grandson, David Grindstaff and wife Carla and children, Tyler and Tristen of Dryden, VA. Also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Monday, March 11, 2013 in the Province Funeral Home Sanctuary in Pennington Gap with Rev. Taylor Phelps officiating. Burial will follow at the Powell Valley Cemetery in Dryden, VA. Visitation will be held from 1:00 P.M. Monday until time of services.
