MUNCIE - David Maurice Jones, 93, passed away Tuesday morning, January 10, 2017 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

He was born on May 3, 1923, in Matthews the son Clarence and Nora (Dawson) Jones and spent his early years in Matthews and Upland before moving to Eaton. David was a 1941 graduate of Eaton High School and attended Ball State Teachers College before Army Enlistment in February 1943. As a member of the 225th Field Artillery Battalion he landed on Utah Beach, Normandy on D-Day 30, 1944. As part of Patton's Third Army, he saw action in the Battle of the Bulge. He was honorably discharged from military service on December 7, 1945.

Upon returning home, he joined his father in the family business, Jones Coal and Feed, Eaton. Moving to Muncie in 1958, he joined the Muncie Fire Department, served in several capacities, and retired as District Chief after thirty years of service.

Active in community affairs, Mr. Jones was Past Master of the Eaton Masonic Lodge #606, F. & A.M., a member of the Scottish Rite Valley of Ft. Wayne, Murat Shrine, Indianapolis, Murpah Shrine Club of Muncie, O'Leara-Quirk Post #90 American Legion, the Lions Club, Eaton Methodist Church, and served on the Eaton Town Board and the Eaton Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are a son, David Allen Jones (wife, Linda), Moriarity, NM; a daughter, Kathy Jones Lee (husband, Jim), Muncie; six grandchildren, David Allen Jones, Jr., Angela Jones, Cindy Jones, Jenny Jones, Jill Jones Wichman, and Alexandra Lee Adams; six great-grandchildren; a sister, Mildred Jones Smoot; a sister-in-law, Maxine Hiatt Jones; numerous nieces and nephews; step-children, Allen Davis, Judith Davis Ash, James Pitser (Maggie), Sandra Pitser Holmes (Joe), Shirley Pitser Markwell (Tom), and Cinda Pitser Daugherty (Larry); and numerous step-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Richard M. Jones; a daughter, Linda L. Jones; his wives, Kathleen Cooper Jones, Margaret Davis Jones, and Maxine Pitser Jones; two brothers, Rev. John Paul Jones and Max W. Jones; and a sister, Martha Jones Day.

Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel with Rev. Donald Keith Jones officiating. Burial will follow in Union Cemetery, Eaton with Military Rites by Veterans of Delaware County.

Friends may call at The Meeks Mortuary and Crematory, Washington Street Chapel from 12:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 27, 2017 with Masonic Rites at 1:45 p.m.
