DANVILLE - Dewey Clyde Childress, 81, of 799 Holland Road, Danville, died Sunday, January 18, 2009, at Danville Regional Medical Center where he had been a patient for one day and follow-ing a decline in health for two years. Born December 30, 1927, in Danville, he was the son of the late Eugene Childress and Cora Garrett Childress. He was married to Doris Shepherd Childress who died June 22, 2007.
 
Mr. Childress was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church. He lived all his life on Holland Road and served in the U.S. Army in Korea. For approximately 40 years, he worked as a loom fixer for Dan River, Inc.
 
Survivors include a son, William H. Childress of Kernersville, N.C.; a daughter, Sandra Childress of Providence, N.J.; four grandchildren; and a close friend, Joe Wilson. In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by a daughter, Peggy Beamon.
 
Funeral services will be held Tuesday, January 20, at 11:00 a.m. at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with the Rev. James Mayes and the Rev. Aubrey Dewberry officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum.
