CHILDRESS DANVILLE, Va. - Mrs. Doris Shepherd Childress, 78, of Danville, Va. passed away on Friday, June 22, 2007, at Stratford Rehabilitation Center. She was born May 2, 1929, in Beckley, W. Va., to the late John H. Shepherd and Nellie Gill Shepherd. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by seven brothers. Mrs. Childress was a member of Holland Road Baptist Church and the Ladies' Sunday school class. She lived in the Danville area for the past 65 years and worked a number of years as a waitress for G. C. Murphy. Mrs. Childress is  survived by her husband of 56 years, Dewey C. Childress of the home; two daughters, Peggy Beamon of Westover Drive in Danville, Va. and Sandra Childress of Providence, N.J.; a son, William H. Childress of Germanton; two sisters, Sue Brooks and Dolly Barber both of Danville; a brother, Richard Shepherd also of Danville; four grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday, June 25, at Danville Memorial Gardens Mausoleum, with the Revs. James Mayes and Aubrey Dewberry officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 this evening, June 24, at Swicegood Funeral Home.
