Douglas Cearley
April 22, 1931 - August 27, 2010
Douglas Eugene Cearley, 79, of Amarillo died Friday, Aug. 27, 2010.
Memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Monday in Central Church of Christ with
Mark Love officiating. Arrangements are by Griggs-Schooler-Gordon Funeral
Directors Pioneer Chapel, 5400 S. Bell St.
Douglas was born April 22, 1931, in Slidell to Allen and Mattie Tressie
Cearley. He enlisted in the U.S. Naval Aviator Program and was medically
discharged, but he completed his enlistment in the Navy.
Afterward, he worked for and retired from the Federal Bureau of Mines,
Helium Division after 30 years. Doug was an avid woodworker and carpenter,
but also enjoyed spending his time traveling, playing dominoes (both 42 and
88) with family and friends, and loving his children, grandchildren and
great-grandchildren.
Doug was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ throughout his life and was a
member of Central Church of Christ.
Doug married Clara Cearley on Nov. 23, 1991.
Doug was a well-loved and blessed child of God and was a shining example of
faith and unconditional love to his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann, in 1982; and a brother,
Allen Dwayne "Butch" Cearley.
Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Clara Cearley; a sister-in-law,
Barbara Cearley of Tyler; a sister, Imogene Bryant and husband Dub of
Orlando, Fla.; seven children, Steve Cearley and wife Debra, Becky Bell,
Gina Love and husband Mark, Dan Cearley and wife Monica, Carla McCain and
husband Don, Jana Malmberg and husband George, and Laura Polchlepek and
husband Richard; 17 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be to Outreach Ministry of
Central Church of Christ, 1401 S. Monroe St., Amarillo, TX 79101; or a
charity of choice.
