Duane Robert Johnson, 50, of rural Powhattan, died early Friday morning, May 15, 2009, died as a result from a mobile home fire.
He was born at Kansas City, Kansas, April 1, 1959, one of four children of Donnie R. and Edith Dorothy Hobbs Johnson. Duane graduated from Liberty, Missouri High School and attended Maple Wood Community College, learning computer repair. He moved with his family to Honolulu where they lived until 1975 prior to returning to Liberty. The family in later years moved to the Hobbs family farm, southwest of Powhattan to live. Duane worked for Ken Babcock Sales of Hiawatha in grain bin construction prior to working for a road crew for a company in Marysville, Kansas.
 
Duane is survived by a sister Annalee (Roy) Baxter of San Diego, California; two brothers Donnie (Carol) Johnson of Linn Valley, KS, and David Johnson of Hiawatha.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents.
 
Funeral services are planned for 10 a.m. Saturday, May 23, at Chapel Oaks Funeral Home in Hiawatha. Pastor Tom Stone, of the Church of the Lord Jesus Christ of Horton, will officiate. Interment will follow at Powhattan Cemetery.
 
Friends may call at the funeral home anytime Friday. The family will meet with friends a half hour prior to services.
