Obituary - Edward Bernard Wilkins III

COLUMBIA - Memorial service for Edward Bernard Wilkins, III, 73, will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, January 27, 2013, at Dunbar Funeral Home, Devine Street Chapel. 

Mr. Wilkins died Thursday, January 24, 2013. Born in Asheville, N.C., he was a son of the Edward Bernard Wilkins Jr. and Louise Hyder Wilkins. Mr. Wilkins attended Clemson College where he was a member of the Pershing Rifles. He, also, served six years as a reservist in the U.S. Army. He later transferred to the University of South Carolina. 

One of his greatest pleasures was sitting on the back patio each morning drinking coffee with his dog, Buddy. He was a member of the Columbia Sailing Club (CSC) of which he served as Commodore and held numerous offices throughout his life. He received the Outstanding Service Award in 1989 from the members of CSC. 

He is survived by his wife of almost 50 years, Linda Bradley Wilkins; one son, Ed (EBW IV) and his wife, Lisa; two grandchildren, Jenny and Chris. In addition, he is survived by his three sisters, Elenore Louise Lunn (Allan) of Asheville, N.C., Margaret Etheredge (Dan) of Elloree, and Nancy T. Jacobson (Julian) of St. Augustine, Fla. There are numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and Godchildren surviving. He was very close to his family and loved them and was proud of them.
