Obituary - Elizabeth (Prater) Carter

BRISTOL, Va. Elizabeth Prater Carter, 85, passed away Monday, Sept. 17, 2012, at Bristol Health and Rehabilitation Center.

She was born in Bristol on July 1, 1927, a daughter of the late Price and Lena Newton Prater, and was a granddaughter of a confederate soldier. She was a member of Abingdon Presbyterian Church and was a 1948 graduate of Virginia Intermont College.

Elizabeth is survived by her husband of 62 years, Edward F. Carter Sr.; five sons, Edward Carter Jr. of Woodstock, Ga., Thomas Carter of Bristol, Tenn., Jerry Carter of Bristol, Va., James Carter of Bristol, Tenn., and Richard Carter of Bristol, Va.; two sisters, Mary Jean Barnhill of Boston and Embree Harder of Blacksburg, Va.; nine grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank Jerry Carter for his service to his mother for over five years during her illness.

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2012, at Blevins Funeral Services. The funeral service will be conducted at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2012, in the Mausoleum Chapel at Mountain View Cemetery. Everyone is asked to meet at the cemetery on Wednesday for the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Abingdon Presbyterian Church, 18438 Lee Hwy, Abingdon, VA, 24210, or to Caris Hospice, 110A W. Springbrook Dr., Johnson City, TN, 37604.
