Elsie <i>Johnson</i> Holmes

Elsie Holmes, resident of Ponca City, passed away Wednesday, April 21, 2010, at the Ponca City Nursing Home. She was 87.
The service will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 26, at the First Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. David Bigger, Pastor of the First Free Will Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will then follow at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Trout Funeral Home & Crematory.

Elsie was born on Monday, Jan. 15, 1923, to Charles and Awilda Cecil Bowhay Johnston in Grainola. On July 11, 1947, Elsie married Bondford Holmes in Newkirk. They remained in Ponca City where they raised their family. She was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church.

Elsie was a loving wife and mother. Her grandchildren say they couldn't have asked for a better grandma than her. She was always there for them and loved when they came to visit her. She enjoyed cooking and was known throughout the family for her famous homemade chicken and noodles and the best cherry pie you would ever eat! She loved to bowl and was a member of the Wednesday Night Women's League at Ponca Bowl for many years. Elsie had a great sense of humor and cherished all of her family and friends. She was special to all of us and her memories will last forever in out minds.

She is survived by her two sons: Danny Holmes and his wife Jenny of Ponca City, and Tim Holmes and his wife Kelly of Ponca City; one daughter, Cherri Harp and her husband Larry of Salem, Ore.; grandchildren, Jennifer Holmes of North Glen, Colo., Michael Holmes of Moscow Mills, Mo., Randyl Holmes and Bryer Holmes of Ponca City, J.C. Harp of Salem, Ore, and Chris Harp of Salem, Ore; brothers: Willard, Dick, Marion, and Charles Johnston; one sister, Evelyn Littau; and numerous nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her husband Bondford Holmes; and parents, Charlie and Awilda Johnston; and three brothers, Lee, Cloise and Glenn Johnston.

Casketbearers will be Phillips Johnston, Michael Johnston, Brian Johnston, Todd Holmes, Bryer Holmes and Michael Holmes.
