Death comes sunday to Wick McNeilley
Rites wednesday for Old Resident whose great suffering came to an end at
west main home
Intense suffering gover quite a long period came to an end about ten
thirty oclock last night for Ermest Wilkins McNeilley, 72, at his home, 326
W Main street, where he had been confined to his bed for almost three
weeks.. He had been in failing health for about two years and his decline in
health, and the weakening of a body vigorous in spite of his years, was most
allarming to his host of friends and acquaintances.
Funeral services will be held at two thirty wed.afternoon from the church of
Shrist, with the pastor, the Rev. W, I Palmer, and the Rev. a.L. Carlton of
Goodland, former pastor of the Methodist Church , of which Mr McNeilley was
a member will be the officiating ministers. Members of the Odd Fellows
lodge, of which Mr. McNeilly was one of the active and outstanding members,
will conduct the last ritual at the grave the Norton Cemetery.
Mr.McNeilley was born on 2-25-1863, in Iowa, a son of Samuel and
Mattie Donahue McNeilley. While yet very young, the McNeilley's left Iowa
and moved to Clay county,Ks where Mr McNeilley resided until he was about
25yoa. In Feb.1888, he was married in Clay county to ella Bunton, and they
moved to Norton county, which has been there home for about47 yrs.
Since Mr. McNeilly has lived here he has followed a number of business
pursuits, including farming, operating thresher outfits, garage business,
taxi line and suburban grocery, his business at the time of his death. He
owned the taxi line for about 5 yrs and opened the store in one section of
his residence property about5 yrs ago.Surviving Mr. McNeilley are his wifow,
two daughters, two sons, 12 grandchildren, one great-grandchild, one
brother, and two half brothers. The children are Ernest Mc Neilley of
Norton, Ralph McNelley of Alambra,, Ca; Mrs. Ray carnie of Portland,
Ore;and Mrs Mildred Bright of Woodward, Ore. The brothers are Abe McNeilley
of Azura, Calif, Ben Doolittle of Norton and Phil Doolittle, whose home is
in Calif.
