Francis J. "Fritz" Hemmer
(March 16, 1934 - August 22, 2012)
Francis "Fritz" Hemmer, 78, of Flandreau, passed away Wednesday, August 22,
2012 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Fals. Francis "Fritz" was born
March16, 1934, in rural Moody County, SD., to Thomas and Rose (Welbig)
Hemmer. He attended Gale Ridge Country School. Fritz worked on the farm
until 1954 when he volunteered to serve his country and spent 2 years in Ft.
Sill, Oklahoma. On April 10, 1954, he married Darlene Pickard at Lawton, OK.
After being honorably discharged, Fritz returned to Moody County and farmed
southeast of Flandreau where they still reside. He was a member of the Ss.
Simon & Jude Catholic Church for many years, and in later years becoming a
Presbyterian. He served on the Egan Elevator Board and was a member of the
Township Board. Fritz loved hunting and fishing, the various family hobbies
of raising deer, miniature horses and so forth.
Fritz is survived by his wife, Darlene; three children: Linda (Dale)
Christensen of Flandreau, SD., Cindy (Gary) Meyer of Hartford, SD., and
Kevin (Kim) Hemmer of Peachtree City, GA; five granddaughters, Katie
Kaubisch, Crystal Farrokhi, Kari Jandreau, Cpt. Brittany Hemmer, Briana
Hemmer, five great-grandsons; and a brother, James (Pat) Hemmer of Egan, SD.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services will be 1:30 pm Saturday, August 25, 2012 at the Second
Presbyterian Church with burial in Union Cemetery. Visitation is from
5:00-7:00 pm Friday at Skroch Funeral Chapel with a 7:00 pm prayer service.
