Gerald B. Baker, 70, of 1001 Greer Lane, Springville, IN, died at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, November 25, 2003 at Dunn Memorial Hospital following a two and one half year illness.

Born February 4, 1933 in Lawrence County, he was the son of Dolphus and Maude Lorena (Hackler) Baker. He married Marilyn Joyce Lake on November 23, 1956 and she survives. He was a certified welder and layout man for Indiana Steel and Engineering Co. retiring in 1998. He had also been employed by Indiana Limestone Co. and had taught a welding class at the Vocational School in Bedford. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during the Korean War and was a member of the Gillen Post #33 American Legion, Lawrence Co. Farm Bureau and Lawrence Co. Fair Board. He was a member of the Hilltop Pentecostal Church in Avoca and a 4-H leader for fifteen years.

Surviving with his wife, Marilyn, are one daughter, Sherry Lynn Baker-Rayhill of Mitchell; two sons, Mark Kevin Baker and his wife, Kim and Jon Stevin Baker and his wife, Brenda all of Springville; nine grandchildren, Crystal, Cristen, Cory, Craig and Christanna Rayhill all of Mitchell, Brett Baker, Jamie Baker-Phillips and Stacy Baker all of Springville and Stephanie Baker of Indianapolis; one great granddaughter, Lauren Cheyenne Nobles of Springville; two step-grandchildren, Ronnie Patton, Jr. and Brandi Morris; one step great granddaughter, Haley Patton; one brother, Harold Baker and his wife, Pauline of Bedford and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 29th from the Elmwood Chapel of the Day & Carter Mortuary with Rev. Bill Johnson officiating. Burial will follow in Hilltop Cemetery in Avoca.
