Obituary - Harold Henson Cornett

Harold Henson Cornett, 83, of Gate City, VA, went home to be with his Lord, and Wife on Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at his home.

Harold was born on August 19, 1926, in Roda, VA. He was the eldest of five children, born to the late V. R. and Maude Neeley Cornett.

He was a member of Community Fellowship Baptist Church, Gate City, VA. He spent most of his life in Gate City. He attended Shoemaker High School prior to serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Cornett served as a Sergeant in the 112th Calvary Regiment during World War II and was stationed in the Phillipines, Japan, and Austria from 1944-46.

Upon returning to Gate City, Mr. Cornett began working with his father and uncle, James Cornett, building business structures, churches, and private homes throughout Southwest Virginia, and East Tennessee. He was a Master Carpenter, and his passion were his work and family, especially his late wife of 61 years, Fostina Addington Cornett.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; and youngest brother, Bobby Cornett. Survivors include two daughters, Janet Davidson and husband Ron of Jacksonville, FL, and Jolene Lambert and husband Barry of Jonesville, VA; two sons, Harold Cornett, Jr.  and wife Linda of Kingsport, TN, and David Cornett and wife Donna of Big Stone Gap, VA; four grandchildren, Josh Davidson and wife Day of Wichita, KS, Michael Davidson and wife Amy of Wichita, KS, Brianne Falin and husband Clayton of Kingsport, TN, and Amanda Lambert of Jonesville, VA; two great-grandchildren, Austin Connell of Wichita, KS, and Ethan Falin of Kingsport, TN; three siblings, Delores Phillips and husband Nat of Signal Mountain, TN, Don  Cornett and wife Margaret of Weber City, VA, and Carl Cornett and wife Jesse of Church Hill, TN; and a host of special nieces and nephews.

The Family would like to express their gratitude to Elizabeth Finch, Brenda McDurmott, Helen Page, and Margie Smith for their devoted care over the past several months.  The family would also like to thank the nurses and staff at Wellmont Hospice for their service and compassion.

The family will receive friends on Saturday from 11 a.m. until time for the service.

Funeral Services for Mr. Cornett will be conducted at 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 29, 2010, from the chapel of Scott County Funeral Home, with M. A. Lunsford officiating.

The Burial will follow at Oak Hill Memorial Cemetery with Military Honors being conducted by the TN Army National Guard and the American Legion Color Guard Post # 3/ Post # 265. Pallbearers will be grandsons, nephews, and friends.
