Obituary - Herbert James Weatherford

Deary resident Herb Weatherford passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010, following a tractor accident while working on his property. Herb was born Jan. 5, 1939, at Garfield, to Harold and Eva Weatherford, and grew up in Sanders, Idaho.

Herb worked on his family farm alongside his father Harold, brothers Willis and Albert and older sister Ila Rhea. After graduating at Plummer (Idaho) High School, Herb joined the U.S. Army and was stationed in Greenland until his discharge in 1958.

He married Edna Anderson, of St. Maries, Dec. 5, 1959, in Tensed, Idaho. They lived in Sanders until 1963; they then moved to Elk River. They have lived in Deary for 37 years.

Herb was a sawyer in the woods for 26 years and later worked as a cat operator. He was employed by Potlatch Corp., Zimmerman Logging and retired from Lawson Logging in 1998.

He loved the outdoors, especially fishing on Dworshak with his beloved wife of 50-plus years, Edna. He also loved picking huckleberries, hunting and gardening.

Survivors include his wife, Edna; daughter Lettis and Clair Hooten; son Jim and Lori Weatherford; brothers Willis and Albert Weatherford; sister Ila Rhea Bowers; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harold and Eva Weatherford.


A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Deary Community Church. A luncheon will follow at the Deary Community Center.
The family requests that memorials be sent to the Deary Ambulance Fund.
