MITCHELL, James (Jim) Edward, 80, of Lake Placid, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 13, 2004 at Florida Hospital Lake Placid.

He was born in London, Kentucky and a longtime resident of Ft. Lauderdale, Florida and came to Lake Placid, Florida in 1979. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes. He owned and operated restaurants in Louisville, Kentucky and Vincennes, Indiana, and also operated a home maintenance business for ten years in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida. He was a member of the Elks Lodge 2661.

Survivors include his loving and devoted wife, Ruth Mitchell of Lake Placid, Fla.; sons, Steven James Mitchell and wife Kathy of Churchton, Maryland, and Daniel Edward Mitchell of North Carolina; brother, Walter G. Mitchell and wife Mary of North Carolina; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

A visitation will be held on Monday, February 16, 2004 from 6-8 p.m. at Chandler Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, February 17, 2004 at 11 a.m. in the First Baptist Church of Placid Lakes. Following will be a burial in Oak Hill Cemetery. Pastor Darryl George will be officiating. A donation may be made in his honor to Huntington's Disease Society.
